The book was written in 1991, but the reader can obtain more recent information on specific drugs from Dr. Breggin’s more recent books, especially his new medical text Brain-Disabling Treatments in Psychiatry (Second edition, Springer Publishing Company, New York, 2008).

Together these two books, Toxic Psychiatry and Brain-Disabling Treatments in Psychiatry, provide the broadest coverage of Dr. Breggin’s critique of psychiatry. The Heart of Being Helpful provides the most readable and detailed discussion of his approach to psychotherapy.
