Like any skill, empathy requires some practice. Growing up, my parents taught me that qualities like toughness and persistence were most important. They’d convinced me that if I could survive a challenging situation or keep trying, I’d eventually reach my goals.
This mindset can make the idea of empathy in business something that sounds nice in theory, but challenging in practice for some employees.
