The Empathy Machine is an interactive video installation. The viewer steps in to the Empathy Machine ‘booth’ and is greeted by the digital therapist. The viewer responds to the Digital Therapists questions. The interaction will continue as long as the viewer remains in the booth and talks back.
However this digital therapist is a little glitchy and doesn’t work efficiently, tending to interrupt. This piece plays on the idea that though our daily interactions become more computer based, an on-screen persona may never replicate the empathetic nature of a real human being.
