Tabor Academy speaker series focuses on empathy

Taber Academy is exploring the theme of empathy this year with its students and the tri-town community through a slate of speakers, beginning with Dr. Michael Kimmel on Sept. 23.

Kimmel, director of the Center for the Study of Men and Masculinities at Stony Brook University and author of “Guyland,” spoke with Tabor students and faculty as well as faculty from Old Rochester Regional High School.

Tabor believes instilling empathy and habits of inclusive behaviors are critical to creating a safe and healthy learning living community for students.

“Empathy is a key twenty-first century learning disposition, and our efforts to focus on understanding how best to see through the perspective lens of others carries such power and opportunity,” said Dean of Students Mel Bride, who is responsible for much of this programming.
