Finding Common Ground? first is to develop an intentional ethic of empathy, John Danforth

It seems to me that if we’re ever going to break societal gridlock, people need to cultivate two additional biblical concepts.

The first is to develop an intentional ethic of empathy, of trying to understand the mind and heart of the person with whom you’re fighting.

The modern approach is to demonize that person, building a caricature of a liberal/conservative, homophobe/lgbt, ethnic/police, Christian/Muslim… It’s much cleaner this way, and gives you the righteous cause to continue the fight.
