Federal Way schools foster empathy through community service +Video

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — School children in Federal Way are busy learning much more than what can be found in a text book. A district-wide effort to teach youngsters about empathy and compassion is proving to be some of the most successful and rewarding lesson plans teachers can make.

Children at Wildwood Elementary School are learning through their work to help the homeless and by raising money to buy sewing machines for women in India to provide for their families.

“You feel better when you know that you’re making somebody else happy,” Wildwood student Amaya Vili said.
