“Compassion Drug” Could be the Solution to Increased Empathy

Researchers at the Universities of California Berkeley and San Francisco have found that prolonging the effects of dopamine on the human brain gives people a greater sense of empathy.


No one is going to be trading in their cache of Ecstasy for “Empathy” but the research could help scientists better understand how and why people engage in “prosocial” behaviors versus ones that foster inequality….


In other words, most people tend to learn compassion and productivity behaviors through nurturing. But for those whose chemistry is not geared toward empathy, science may soon have a solution that cannot be taught in the home or the classroom.
